Africa’s washing machine market has experienced steady growth in imports over the past decade, driven by rising urbanization, changing lifestyles, and increasing demand for home appliances. The shift toward automation in many households presents significant opportunities for international manufacturers. Statista values the washing machines market revenue at US$5.23bn in 2025.
In a recent project for a global washing machine manufacturer, africon analyzed key markets to identify opportunities for expansion and sales growth. We found that Egypt, South Africa, and Algeria are the largest importers of washing machines. Egypt’s import volumes stagnated between 2022 and 2023 due to foreign exchange challenges and a maturing market. In contrast, South Africa and Morocco’s imports increased. South Africa benefits from an established retail infrastructure and a growing consumer base, while Morocco’s expanding middle class and urban development are fueling appliance demand.
Based on our findings, we offered strategic recommendations tailored to the client’s objectives. We identified high-potential countries for market entry and provided detailed country-specific insights.
