Slide of the month (SOTM) May. What do emission standards look like across Africa?

Africa is making gradual progress in regulating air quality and emission standards, creating new dynamics for global industrial players. These efforts are particularly relevant in the context of growing urbanization and industrialization across the continent.
In a recent project for a leading German manufacturer of industrial and automotive catalytic converters, africon supported the client with a country prioritisation. One of the slides focused on emission standards. As part of the project, we analysed regulatory frameworks related to industrial air pollution, covering pollutants such as nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), sulfur dioxide (SO₂), and particulate matter. Our research incorporated the latest available data and highlighted countries with more advanced enforcement, such as Morocco, South Africa, Rwanda, and Mauritius, and outlined where regulatory gaps remain.
africon delivered tailored insights into national emission regulations, enforcement levels, and market readiness. This enabled our client to understand the landscape and refine their growth strategy.
