africon presents opportunities for Italian companies in Africa, at UCIMA headquarters in Modena

UCIMA (the Italian Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Association), in collaboration with Confindustria Assafrica & Mediterraneo, organised a conference (The African Market – How to Benefit from the African Potential) dedicated to the growth prospects of Made in Italy packaging on the African continent. africon was invited to speak on the topic “Opportunities for the packaging sector in African markets”.

It was an engaging afternoon of discussions, moderated by Davide Miserendino, Director of ItaliaImballaggio, and attended by institutions, trade associations, and leading Italian packaging manufacturers.

africon was invited to present on opportunities for Italian companies in Africa. Our CEO and Founder, Marc Zander, shared a value-packed presentation.

Some takeaways.

  • Africa is home to over 400 active pharmaceutical manufacturers and more than 30,000 food and beverage companies.
  • Italy is the leading supplier of packaging technologies to Africa, accounting for around 26% of all packaging machinery sales, followed closely by Germany at 25%. Together, they make up more than half of all packaging machines sold on the continent.
  • Understanding local culture is essential to doing business successfully in Africa. Many Italian packaging companies have already recognised this and are implementing thoughtful strategies.

We also explored how Italian innovation and expertise can drive industrial development and long-term partnerships across Africa.
