africon presents insights at Berlin’s 2025 Health Foreign Trade Day

Africa’s healthcare sector is among the world’s fastest‑growing markets. Driven by expanding middle classes, rapid urbanization, and ambitious public health initiatives, demand is soaring for high‑quality, accessible solutions—from diagnostics and lab technologies to advanced medical devices.

On April 8, 2025, the Foreign Trade Day for the Health Industry—“Fit for the Global Market: Trends, Geopolitics and Diversification”—was held at Berlin’s Federal Foreign Office. Organized by the German Health Alliance (GHA), Industrieverband SPECTARIS, and the Federal Foreign Office, in partnership with Pharma Deutschland, vfa, ZVEI, and Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI), the forum united industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators to discuss how German SMEs can thrive on the global stage.

We were honoured to have our CEO, Marc‑Peter Zander, on the panel alongside:

The discussion was expertly moderated by Jennifer Goldenstede, Head of Foreign Trade & Export Promotion at SPECTARIS.

Some of the key takeaways from the panel include:

  1. Africa is not a monolithic market. Understanding regional dynamics—economic, political, and cultural—is essential to long-term success.
  2. Local partnerships matter. Building relationships on equal footing increases credibility, improves market access, and supports sustainable operations.
  3. Financing remains a hurdle—but also a gateway. Smart financing models can help overcome initial barriers.

One example is the Africa Consulting Voucher.

The consensus? Now is the time to enter Africa. With a clear strategy, respectful local partnerships, and deep regional insight, German companies can successfully navigate the continent’s diverse markets and unlock its vast potential.
